Where date lists disagree
Is Makar Sankranti 2027 on 14 or 15 January?
Both appear. Haridwar's official list uses Thursday 14 January for its first bath. The lists for the Magh Mela at Prayagraj use Friday 15 January, because the Sun enters Makara on the night of the 14th, after sunset, and panchangs move the festival to the next sunrise.

No. The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha opens with the flag hoisting on Saturday 31 October 2026, which is a ceremony. Its first Amrit Snan is on Monday 2 August 2027.

No. The Mahamagha festival at Thirunavaya in Kerala, reported as the Kerala Kumbh Mela, has been announced for 15 January to 6 March 2027, the same window as the Magh Mela, though in October 2026 its organisation was reported to be uncertain. It is a regional festival. The four Kumbh places are Haridwar, Prayagraj, Ujjain and Nashik.
Kerala Kumbh Mela to be held in Thirunavaya from Jan 15 to March 6, Onmanorama, 1 Sep 2026How the dates are set
- 1Tradition and the sky
A Kumbh falls when Jupiter and the Sun reach the signs tradition links with each place. The panchang turns that into tithis and days.
- 2The seers and the akharas
The akharas and the seers' council meet the administration to agree the main bathing days, above all the Amrit Snans.
- 3The government notice
The state or the mela authority announces the days on its website or through the district, often months ahead and sometimes with later changes.
- 4Our check
We mark each day official, provisional or expected, with its source and the date we checked, and change it the day a notice changes.

Questions people ask
Why does the same festival fall on different days in different places?
Bathing days follow the tithi at sunrise, and sunrise differs by place. Nashik also uses the amanta month, which ends at the new moon, while Haridwar, Ujjain and Prayagraj use the purnimanta month, which ends at the full moon.
Kumbh snan kab kab hai?
The calendar above lists every announced day. The next are Haridwar’s bathing days from 14 January to 20 April 2027, and the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Amrit Snans on 2 August, 31 August and 11 and 12 September 2027.
