Nashik Kumbh Nagar Pradakshina: Thursday 29 July 2027
The Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha's Nagar Pradakshina is on Thursday 29 July 2027: a procession around the city of Nashik, four days before the first Amrit Snan.
The date was announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis after a meeting in Nashik with seers of the 13 akharas and the Purohit Sangh, as reported by PTI and Patrika on 1 and 2 June 2025, and news reports still gave it in October 2026. The Kumbh Mela Authority's plan of 15 June 2026 does not list it, and no official notice describes the procession. Tithi: Ashadha Krishna Dashami (amanta), from the Tirth panchang.
It is not a bathing day. The three Amrit Snans follow on 2 August, 31 August and 11 and 12 September 2027. No route, start time or list of participants has been published.

What the Nagar Pradakshina is
Pradakshina means walking around something sacred as an act of worship. The Nashik district gazetteer of 1883 lists walking round the image, pradakshina, among the rites of worship of the Godavari. A nagar pradakshina is a procession around the nagar, the town itself.
The date was set at a meeting in Nashik on 1 June 2025, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and attended by seers of all 13 akharas and representatives of the Purohit Sangh. The same meeting fixed the opening on 31 October 2026 and the three Amrit Snans. PTI reported that the Nagar Pradakshina will be held at Nashik on 29 July 2027, and gave no route, time or list of participants.
The Kumbh Mela Authority’s plan of 15 June 2026 charts the significant dates of the Simhastha for Nashik and for Trimbakeshwar, and the Nagar Pradakshina is not among them. So far the procession is known only from the June 2025 announcement and from news reports that still gave the date in October 2026.
What happens on the day
- The tithi: Ashadha Krishna Dashami (amanta) at sunrise, until 7:33 am, then Ekadashi, by the Tirth panchang for Nashik, which lists the day as Kamika Ekadashi.
- The procession: a procession around Nashik, as announced in June 2025. Its starting point, start time, route and participants have not been published by the Kumbh Mela Authority, the Nashik Municipal Corporation or the police.
- Roads: road closures for processions in Nashik are planned by the city police. Before the procession of 30 October 2026, for example, they planned a rehearsal of their arrangements along its route for 15 October. No notice has been issued for 29 July 2027.
- Four days later: the first Amrit Snan, on Monday 2 August 2027, at Ramkund in Nashik and Kushavarta in Trimbakeshwar.
Not the same as the procession of 30 October 2026
On Friday 30 October 2026, the eve of the flag hoisting, a procession of sadhus, mahants and mahamandaleshwars is planned from Modi Ground in Tapovan through the city to Ramkund, ending with a maha aarti. Reports of the police arrangements for it call it a dharma dhwaja shobhayatra and nagar pradakshina.
That procession belongs to the opening week of the Simhastha. The Nagar Pradakshina of 29 July 2027 is a separate event that comes just before the bathing season. See the flag hoisting page for the opening week.
How it leads into the bathing season
The Simhastha opens with the flag hoisting on 31 October 2026 and runs into 2028, but the authority’s plan puts its core mela period in June to September 2027. The Nagar Pradakshina comes four days before the first of the three Amrit Snans:
- First Amrit Snan, Monday 2 August 2027, at Ramkund and Kushavarta
- Second Amrit Snan, Tuesday 31 August 2027, at Ramkund and Kushavarta
- Third Amrit Snan, Saturday 11 September 2027 at Ramkund in Nashik and Sunday 12 September 2027 at Kushavarta in Trimbakeshwar
By an arrangement the Nashik district traces to the Peshwas, the Vaishnava akharas bathe at Nashik and the Shaiva and Udasin akharas at Trimbakeshwar. See every date, with its status and source, on the Nashik Simhastha timeline.
