Ujjain Simhastha 2028 Dates: What Is Announced

Ujjain's Simhastha is planned for Monday 27 March to Saturday 27 May 2028, the window in the state's plan, given at the Chief Minister's review in March 2024 and repeated in June 2026. No bathing date has been announced yet.

ExpectedChecked on Tue 20 Oct 2026

The 27 March to 27 May window is in the state's plan, given at the Chief Minister's review of 6 March 2024 (reported by The Pioneer) and repeated in a report of 27 June 2026 (Deccan Chronicle); we mark it Expected. On 20 October 2026 we found no list of bathing days from the Madhya Pradesh government, the Simhastha administration or Ujjain district.

A state planning meeting in March 2024 proposed three shahi snans and seven parva snans between 9 April and 8 May 2028. It did not name the days.

The planned window

Ujjain’s Simhastha is planned for 27 March to 27 May 2028. No bathing day has been announced yet, so these are the two ends of the window.

Why no bathing date is fixed yet

A Simhastha’s bathing days follow the tithi, the lunar day, and the timing tradition linked with Jupiter in Simha (Leo). At the recent Kumbhs in Haridwar and Nashik, the main days were settled in meetings between the state government and the akharas, and then announced.

Go deeperHow it went at Haridwar, and what Ujjain’s planning papers say1 min read

In Haridwar, for example, the Amrit Snan dates for the 2027 Kumbh were reported after the Chief Minister met representatives of all 13 akharas in November 2025. We have not found a report of such a meeting, or a dated notice, for Ujjain 2028.

Madhya Pradesh planning papers name Simhastha 2028 as the coming event, with work around Ram Ghat and the old city. Planning papers are not a bathing schedule.

Why travel sites with exact dates are guessing

The date lists we have seen on different sites do not agree with each other. These are the claims that come up most.

Why date lists differ

Why do travel sites already show exact 2028 shahi snan dates?

No government notice lists the 2028 bathing days. The only official word is the 2024 proposal of three shahi snans and seven parva snans between 9 April and 8 May 2028, with no dates named. Any exact list today is someone's own reading of the calendar.

Why do some lists show 22 April and 21 May?

Those were the first and last shahi snans of 2016: Friday 22 April and Saturday 21 May 2016. They have not been announced for 2028.

3 Shahi Snans to be held during Simhastha-2016, official Simhasth Ujjain 2016 website, 17 Mar 2016 (archived)
Can a list worked out from the calendar still be wrong?

Yes. In 2016 the state's own website first listed 9 May only as Akshaya Tritiya. It became the second shahi snan at the joint meeting with the Akhara Parishad on 17 March 2016, five weeks before the first one.

Is the 27 March to 27 May 2028 window fixed?

It is the window in the state's plan, given in March 2024 and repeated in June 2026. We have found no dated notice, so we mark it Expected.

How the dates are set

  1. 1
    Tradition and the sky

A Kumbh falls when Jupiter and the Sun reach the signs tradition links with each place. The panchang turns that into tithis and days.

  2. 2
    The seers and the akharas

The akharas and the seers' council meet the administration to agree the main bathing days, above all the Amrit Snans.

  3. 3
    The government notice

The state or the mela authority announces the days on its website or through the district, often months ahead and sometimes with later changes.

  4. 4
    Our check

We mark each day official, provisional or expected, with its source and the date we checked, and change it the day a notice changes.
