All three Amrit Snans of the Nashik and Trimbakeshwar Simhastha fall in the monsoon: Monday 2 August, Tuesday 31 August, and Saturday 11 September 2027 at Nashik with Sunday 12 September at Trimbakeshwar. Plan for rain on every one of them, and follow official weather and district advisories in the days before you travel.
The Amrit Snans and the monsoon calendar
In Nashik district, June to September is the south-west monsoon season, and October and November are the post-monsoon months, according to the Central Ground Water Board. The Kumbh Mela Authority’s plan says the 2027 Simhastha is scheduled during the monsoon, with its main period from June to September 2027.
| Amrit Snan | Date | Where |
|---|---|---|
| First | Monday 2 August 2027 | Nashik and Trimbakeshwar |
| Second | Tuesday 31 August 2027 | Nashik and Trimbakeshwar |
| Third | Saturday 11 September 2027 | Ramkund, Nashik |
| Third | Sunday 12 September 2027 | Kushavarta, Trimbakeshwar |
The dates are in the authority’s plan of 15 June 2026, which it marks as interim and subject to change. Check the Nashik dates page for the current status of each day.
The Simhastha itself is much longer than its bathing season. It opens with the flag hoisting on 31 October 2026, and the authority’s plan puts the closing ceremony on 29 July 2028. The Nagar Pradakshina on 29 July 2027 comes just before the first Amrit Snan, so the main bathing weeks of the mela fall in the monsoon.
Rain at a Simhastha is nothing new. At the second Shahi Snan of the last Simhastha, on 13 September 2015, the news agency IANS reported that lakhs of pilgrims bathed at Ramkund and at Trimbakeshwar in sporadic heavy rain.
Trimbakeshwar gets far more rain than Nashik
The Godavari rises at Brahmagiri, in the hills near Trimbakeshwar, and flows east through the old centre of Nashik. The hills are much wetter. A Central Ground Water Board report gives average yearly rainfall for 2002 to 2011 as about 2,363 mm in Trimbakeshwar taluka, against about 890 mm in Nashik taluka. For how the two bathing centres differ, read Ramkund or Kushavarta and how the two centres connect.
Single days can bring a great deal of rain. In July 2026, Trimbakeshwar taluka recorded 245 mm in 24 hours, according to a news report.
What rain can change on the day
Heavy rain can change plans at short notice. In July 2026, after an IMD warning of extremely heavy rain for Nashik district, the administration closed the Trimbakeshwar temple to devotees for a day. Later that month, when the Godavari rose in Nashik, the Ramkund area was to stay closed for two days, according to PTI. Arrangements for 2027 will be set by the Kumbh Mela Authority and the district.
