Chandi Ghat, Haridwar: Bathing Across the River
Chandi Ghat is a large riverfront ghat on the left bank of the Ganga, across the river from Har Ki Pauri, on the north side of the Chandighat bridge. According to Uttarakhand Tourism, it was built under the Namami Gange programme and dedicated on 21 February 2019.
The ghat's location and history do not change. Its facilities are described as they were when it opened; their current condition is not confirmed. Whether Chandi Ghat is used for bathing on the 2027 Kumbh days is not announced.
The state tourism board says plainly that it does not match Brahmakund and Har Ki Pauri in religious importance. People come for its space, its location and its views of the river.

What Chandi Ghat has
When it opened, Uttarakhand Tourism described the ghat with 17 canopies (chhatris) where people can perform puja, a prayer hall for about 300 people, an information centre, a parking area, a toilet complex, a cafeteria and a souvenir shop. The steps have heavy steel railings, and high-mast lights light the ghat at night. A cremation ghat was built opposite the bridge as part of the same project.
Ganga Avlokan, a museum about the Ganga made by the National Mission for Clean Ganga and the Wildlife Institute of India, is at Chandi Ghat. The Prime Minister inaugurated it by video link on 29 September 2020. Its opening days and hours are not confirmed, so check locally.
Nagar Nigam Haridwar suggests Chandighat to visitors as one of the newly renovated ghats. These descriptions date from when the ghat opened; we have not confirmed the current condition of each facility.
Chandi Ghat and the 2027 Kumbh
The role of Chandi Ghat on the 2027 bathing days is not announced. This is what is known so far.
- In a September 2025 review, the Chief Minister asked officials to prepare a master plan for special tents in the Shyampur, Gaindikhata and Chandighat areas. That is a direction, not a confirmed camp.
- The same review directed that every ghat should have lifeguards, safety ropes and motor boats during the Kumbh.
- On Amrit Snan days the akharas bathe first at the main ghat, and other pilgrims bathe at the ghat the police direct them to. Nothing has been announced about Chandi Ghat for those days.
- Roads into the mela area usually close the night before a big bathing day. Do not plan to cross between Chandi Ghat and Har Ki Pauri on an Amrit Snan morning unless the official plan shows that route is open.
How Chandi Ghat fits a Kumbh visit
Chandi Ghat is a newer, open riverfront rather than one of Haridwar’s old sacred ghats. We found no official information on ramps or wheelchair access, so check on site.
