From Delhi, the realistic options are a train to Haridwar Junction (about 3.5 to 8.5 hours), an Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) bus from Kashmiri Gate ISBT (about 5 to 6 hours), or a car or taxi via Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee.

The basic routes on this page do not change from year to year. Kumbh 2027 transport arrangements, such as special trains, extra buses, parking, shuttles and road closures, have not been announced. Train and bus details come from NTES and the UTC timetable, checked on 16 October 2026; timetables change.

Getting to Haridwar is the easy part. At the 2021 Kumbh, vehicles were restricted from entering the city for about a week around the main baths, so plan to arrive early and walk the last stretch.

By train from Delhi

Indian Railways’ NTES enquiry listed 23 trains from Delhi stations to Haridwar Junction (HW) when we checked on 16 October 2026. Check which Delhi station your train leaves from.

  • New Delhi (NDLS): the Shatabdi Express (12017) and the Jan Shatabdi (12055), both daily, about 4 to 5 hours.
  • Anand Vihar Terminal (ANVT): the Vande Bharat Express (22457), six days a week, about 3 hours 20 minutes. It was the fastest train listed.
  • Delhi Junction (DLI), Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) and Shakurbasti (SSB): mail and express trains, several of them daily, taking about 4 to 8.5 hours.

Timetables change. Check your train on NTES or IRCTC before you book, and again the day before you travel.

No special Kumbh trains for 2027 have been announced. As of 16 October 2026 we found no Indian Railways notice of extra trains for the mela. Book only what IRCTC shows, not a train you read about in a forwarded message.

The official Haridwar Kumbh website lists eight stations in and around Haridwar, including Haridwar Junction, Jwalapur, Roorkee and Laksar Junction. Check where your train stops and how you will get from there to your stay.

By bus from Delhi

Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) runs buses from Delhi to Haridwar. On 16 October 2026 its online timetable listed four AC and Volvo services from Kashmiri Gate ISBT, timetabled at about 5 to 6 hours, with booking on utconline.uk.gov.in.

The Haridwar district travel guide says state transport and private buses also run to Haridwar from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Some services are sold only at the bus stand, so ask there if the website shows nothing for your date.

In Haridwar, the official Kumbh website lists Haridwar Bus Stand, Haridwar ISBT, and bus stands at Jwalapur, Raiwala and Rishikesh. On a big bathing day your bus may stop well outside the centre; see the section on big bathing days below.

By car or taxi from Delhi

The usual road runs from Delhi through Mohan Nagar, Modinagar, Meerut, Khatauli and Muzaffarnagar, crosses into Uttarakhand at the Narsan border, and continues through Manglaur, Roorkee and Jwalapur to Haridwar. This is the route UTC’s Delhi buses take.

The Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, a 213 km six-lane expressway, was inaugurated on 14 April 2026. The government says it makes Haridwar easier to reach, but its release does not describe a direct link to Haridwar. Check the exit and the onward road on a current map before you use it.

Check the distance and driving time on a map on the day you travel. Near a main bathing day, plan for diversions and for parking outside the city.

What changes on big bathing days

This is how traffic was handled at the last Haridwar Kumbh, in 2021. The plan for 2027 has not been published, and it may be different.

  • Vehicle entry was restricted. Kumbh police restricted vehicles entering Haridwar from 8 to 15 April 2021, around the main baths on 12 and 14 April. Two-wheelers were stopped at the entry points too.
  • Delhi traffic was diverted. Light vehicles from the Delhi side were turned off the main highway at Purkazi and sent via Laksar.
  • Parking was outside the centre. Vehicles from Delhi, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar were sent to the Daksh Dweep parking, and roadways buses on the Delhi route were diverted to the Laksar road.
  • Shuttles from parking. Shuttle buses were planned to carry people on from the parking areas. Even so, expect to walk the last stretch to the ghats.
  • The plan started early. The traffic plan came into force a few days before each main bath.

For 2027, a July 2026 news report says the mela administration is planning temporary bus stations, more buses and shuttle services. None of this is final. The official Haridwar Kumbh website has sections for shuttles, park-and-ride and walking routes, but on 16 October 2026 it gave no routes, parking places or closure dates.

Arrive a day or two before a main bathing day, book a stay you can walk to, and check the official website and Haridwar police updates before you leave. The where to stay guide helps you pick an area, and the ghats guide shows where you can bathe.

Haridwar bathing days to plan your journey around

The official Haridwar Kumbh website lists eleven bathing days, from 14 January to 20 April 2027, and marks four of them as Amrit Snans. All are provisional until a government notice confirms them. Amrit Snan days usually draw the most pilgrims; follow police and mela instructions on the day.
