Where to Stay for Magh Mela 2027 in Prayagraj
There are two ways to stay for Magh Mela 2027: in a tent on the mela ground by the Sangam, or in a hotel, lodge or guest house in the city. Most hotels on the district's list are in Civil Lines, about 7 km from the Sangam.
The mela authority has not yet published its 2027 camp arrangements or any list of approved tent operators. Do not pay for a mela camp until you can check who runs it.

Camps on the mela ground
Every year the Uttar Pradesh government builds a temporary tent township on the mela ground by the Sangam, with roads, transport, water, electricity, sanitation and police, according to the district. Many pilgrims stay there in tents or simple shelters and spend the whole month of Magh in prayer.
Kalpvasis live in tents near the Sangam for the month of kalpvas. According to tradition it runs from Paush Purnima to Maghi Purnima; by the calendar that is Friday 22 January to Saturday 20 February 2027. Read about Magh Mela 2027 and kalpvas.
Akharas and religious institutions (sansthas) also set up camps. For the 2025 Maha Kumbh, the mela authority listed their camps by sector on its website.
In 2026 the Magh Mela ground covered about 800 hectares in seven sectors, All India Radio reported. The layout for 2027 has not been published.
Tent cities near the Sangam
For the 2025 Maha Kumbh, the mela authority’s website listed tent cities near the Triveni Sangam, from basic tents to luxury cottages, and described the operators as UP Tourism-approved vendors. One tent colony was run by the state tourism corporation.
That list was for the Maha Kumbh only. On 16 October 2026 we found no list of approved tent operators for Magh Mela 2027. Some private websites use “Magh Mela” or “official” in their name; a name is not proof of who runs a site.
Staying in the city
The district’s accommodation list is mostly in Civil Lines, with other hotels on Leader Road and in Johnstonganj, Rambagh, Ashok Nagar and near the High Court. The state tourism department runs two tourist bungalows, one in Civil Lines and one on Yamuna Bank Road in Kydganj. A place on that list is not a check of the business, and we do not name or rate hotels.
Civil Lines is about 7 km from the Sangam. In 2025, vehicles were kept out of a zone around the mela from the day before to the day after each main bathing day, so a city stay can mean a long walk on those days. Ask how you would reach the ghats on a bathing day before you book.

What to check before you book
No checker can prove that a booking is genuine. These questions help you spot the usual problems before you pay.
- Who runs it? Get the operator’s full name and address. When the mela authority or UP Tourism publishes a list for 2027, check the name against it.
- Where exactly is it? Ask for the sector, which bank of the river it is on, and how far it is from the bathing ghat. Ask how you would reach it on a main bathing day, when vehicles are stopped.
- Is the website real? The government sites we use for Prayagraj end in .gov.in or .nic.in, such as prayagraj.nic.in and kumbh.gov.in. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has warned of fake websites, social media pages, WhatsApp accounts and paid search ads offering pilgrims rooms, cabs and tours.
- What do you get in writing? Get the dates, what is included and the cancellation terms in writing before you pay. I4C says people who pay fake sellers often get no confirmation, and the phone numbers stop working.
- If you have already paid a fake seller, call the national cyber crime helpline on 1930 as soon as you can, or report at cybercrime.gov.in.

Questions people ask
Can I stay on the Magh Mela ground?
Many pilgrims do. Kalpvasis, akharas and religious institutions camp there, and at the 2025 Maha Kumbh tent cities were set up near the Sangam. The camp arrangements for Magh Mela 2027 have not been announced.
Is there an official list of camps for Magh Mela 2027?
Not yet. As of 16 October 2026 no list had been published. The 2025 Maha Kumbh list was for that event only.
How far is Civil Lines from the Sangam?
About 7 km, according to the district. At the 2025 Maha Kumbh, vehicles were kept away from the river around the main bathing days, so expect to walk the last part.
